Synopsis: A teenage delinquent (Miya Cech) befriends a surly magician (Rhea Perlman) who helps her navigate her inner demons and dysfunctional family with sleight of hand magic. A coming of age comedy that touches on unlikely friendships, grief, and finding hope in the darkest moments.
Kate Tsang is an interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and multiple Emmy-nominated writer creating imaginative, offbeat stories with heart. Her worlds are delightfully tactile and inhabited by misunderstood creatures searching for connection.
Kate’s debut feature film, MARVELOUS AND THE BLACK HOLE, premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, landing on the must-see lists of The Los Angeles Times and Teen Vogue. The film was the recipient of the Untold Stories grant, presented by AT&T and Tribeca Film Institute. Kate is currently in development on her second feature, SPROUT.
On the TV side, Kate has written for Adult Swim, Netflix, Disney, and rad shows like Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake (HBO Max) and Steven Universe Future (Cartoon Network), for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy.
Her work has been supported by PBS, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance, Film Independent, Women in Film, and Hedgebrook.
Bryce Norbitz is the VP of Tribeca Studios + Artist Development at Tribeca and oversees the AT&T Untold Stories program – cultivating filmmaker relationships and connecting audiences to impactful storytelling.
